“FLEECE BOOSTER”
As Abraham Lincoln said, "The best way to predict the future is to create the future." This is exactly what De Heus is doing regarding the wool producing farmers' future. De Heus noticed that its customers have a need to take the feed of wool producing sheep to the next level. We consulted all the available research and gathered producers' inputs & experiences. With De Heus's SFOS system of formulations we then gave birth to the "Fleece Booster" concept. Our starting point was to adapt the existing registered products and to purposefully improve wool production.
We are currently in the final stage of the testing phase at wool producers, where our main focus is to get to a final product that we can implement in any system (extensive or intensive) to achieve the following:
- promote animal health
- support fertility
- increase conception rate
- increase percentage multiple births
- improve milk production
- increase weaning percentage
- improve wool length
- increase clean fleece production and
- maintain fine wool production
The main aim is that it must be cost-effective and must be achieved with the lowest possible levels of supplementation. We have already established that continuous low level of supplementation (as opposed to sporadic varied levels of supplementation) with a well-balanced product, increased most of the wool production parameters. We also see promising improvements in wool growth without compromising quality. In spite of the higher cost of good quality protein, its value cannot be underestimated.
