Plant Operator

PURPOSE OF JOB

It is the responsibility of the Plant Operator to batch as per the production schedule through the reclaim system to the point of mix. To ensure the consistent flow of production and that customer requirements are met on a daily basis. 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Complying with Health, Safety and Risk regulations

  • Ensure that all Health and Safety policies and regulations are adhered to within the plant and production

Implementing and management of Production schedule

  • The production schedule will be handed to the Plant Operator with all relevant information on the schedule. No changes will be made on the Production schedule, unless authorised by the Plant Manager.
  • The Plant Operator has the responsibility to follow the sequence of the schedule unless authorisations is given to do otherwise.
  • The Plant Operator will follow numerical order of mix numbers unless authorisation is given to do otherwise.
  • The Production log sheet must be kept up to date at all times with bin selections and routes, mix numbers that was produced; the production schedule must be kept up to date. The feed that was produced must have a neat line ruled through them to indicate completion. 
  • When the computer calls for the micros to be added, select the correct micro from your stock and scan the barcode into the computer. Add the micros into the scale, the scale will only release when the correct weight of micro is reached.
  • The batching into the scale must be closely monitored and set tolerance maintained. These tolerances must not be exceeded. If exceeded contact the Quality coordinator who will initiate a NCR.
  • Customer requirements must be routed and communicated correctly with the GW Micro Stores:
    I.    Pellet/ crumble requirements with the Pellet Mill Operator
    II.    Bag requirements with Storeman/ bagging team
    III.    Bulk requirements with the drivers/ sales & Customer
  • Finished product samples should be taken for each mixing number and finished product produced, by before- and after the truck has been loaded. These samples needs to be inspected for quality and are retained. It is the Plant Operator’s responsibility to ensure the quality of finished product is maintained and sampling is performed.

  • The duties and responsibilities in this letter of appointment may be revised, by mutual agreement, in line with the company’s overall Policy Document and the responsibilities matrix therein.
  • The company expects the employee to carry out his/her duties and responsibilities to the best of their ability and commits itself to empower the employee with the authority to meet these requirements.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12 Certificate)
  • Possession of a valid Code 08/EB drivers license
  • 2 Years’ experience in a similar position
  • Precious experience in a milling industry
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word
  • Mechanical knowledge would be an advantage
  • Operating the pelleter to a efficiency of higher than 80% would be an advantage
