QA Lab

Purpose of Job 

Prepares test samples of materials used in production and conducts prescribed physical and chemical tests on samples.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Main tasks

  • Preparation and Grinding of test samples of raw materials and finished products.
  • Drying of all roughage samples and calculation of the moisture content.
  • Working with the NIR machine.
  • Scanning of Roughage samples.
  • Sampling of raw material bins daily and analysing of these samples on the NIR.
  • Performing of the sieve analysis of mash finished products for production.
  • Performing density testing on all incoming raw material trucks.
  • Recording and computing analyses / results.
  • Reporting of all out of specification raw materials and finished products to the relevant departments.
  • Using a laboratory management information system (QAM).
  • Packing and maintaining the lab sample library.
  • Removing samples which are older than 6 months from the sample library.
  • Cleaning of sample bottles (in the absence of the lab assistant) to ensure that there are always bottles available for taking samples.
  • Checking received samples against the security log sheets (in the absence of the lab assistant) to ensure all samples have been received.
  • Maintaining housekeeping in the laboratory.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12 Certificate)
  • Relevant certificate or qualification
  • Possession of a valid code 08/EB drivers licence
  • Not less than 5 years experience in a similar position in a Feed Milling environment.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word.
  • The workings of the ISO, GMP and HACCP Quality systems would be an added advantage.
