Team Leader Production

PURPOSE OF JOB

To oversee and manage the production process for the operators at the branch. Ensure the smooth running of the mill so that the customer can receive his good quality feed on time in a cost effective way.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 Managing and Supervising staff and their workload

  • Ensure that the rosters are drawn up on a weekly basis and that all staff reporting to you are made aware of it.
  • Ensure that the allocation of work is done and that staff knows what their responsibility is and the standard in which you expect it to be conducted every day.
  • Monitor your team’s performance on a daily basis and ensure your production targets are met.
  • Ensure that you communicate the branch objectives and targets with your team on a regular basis.
  • Schedule and conduct meetings and keep the minutes of the meetings. Ensure that the minutes is given to the Branch Manager and shared across the team. Provide feedback to your team on elements discussed in the meeting. 
  • Manage employee relations climate, ensuring corrective and disciplinary action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and company policy.

Implement and management of Housekeeping

  • Ensure that high housekeeping standards are maintained for a safe work environment.
  • Implement and monitor quality standards as per compliance audit and ISO standards.
  • Monitor and action appearance and image through housekeeping.

Administration and coordination of stock

  • Checking and making sure that the stock sheets for the Micros and Macros are completed daily
  • Ensure stock schedules are in place and communicated to staff
  • Participation in stock take once a month

Administration and implementation of staff admin

  • Daily capture, analyse and report on data. Actual KPI’s vs budget and work with team to address areas of non-conformance or concern.
  • Ensure adherence to the ERP and DH Application system and data requirements and accurate and on time capture of information in accordance with work instruction.

Maintaining of equipment and machinery

  • Ensure that the calibrations check on 30kg, 1000kg and 2000kg scales as well as the weighbridge scales are done on a daily basis.
  • Check and reset the inflight daily.
  • Conduct a scale calibration with the Quality controller on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure that the Boiler chemicals are dosed in accordance with the specifications on a daily basis.

Administer and coordination of raw material and finished product

  • Ensure that the bin inspections are performed and recorded on a daily basis (RM as well as FG and Pre- Pelleting).
  • Visual check of raw materials and finished goods samples to ensure the quality of the products is maintained daily with every batch.
  • Ensure that the sample is checked against the production log sheet to ensure that all samples are taken accordingly.
  • Ensure that an inspection on the meal intake pit, the maize intake pit and the molasses/scales pit is conducted on a daily basis.
  • Investigation of items on NCR Register.
  • Ensure that the FIFO rule is implemented and followed.
  • Ensure that the correct transfer dosing of materials is done to minimise product loss.

Managing and coordination of loads and trucks

  • Ensure that the truck is loaded in such a manner that the weight is distributed evenly across the axels.

Finance and administration

  • Drive cost awareness of Waste reduction and redress

Managing Safety, Health and Risk

  • Ensure that the Boiler is operated in a safe manner as per the work instructions on a daily basis.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12 Certificate)
  • Production or Supervisory related qualification would be an advantage
  • Possession of a valid Code 08/EB drivers license
  • 3 Years’ experience in a similar position in a manufacturing & milling environment
  • Ability to speak English and a basic understanding of Zulu would be an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word & MS Outlook
