Utilizing the De Heus SynchroFOS system we as De Heus rely on and drive the improvement of on-farm roughage sources. One of the main roughage sources in South Africa is Maize Silage and thus the improvement of its quality is key to this. To facilitate this the OptiMaize concept was developed.
It’s a unique tool developed to better estimate the desired harvest time of maize crops for maize silage. In an easy three-step system done on-farm by one of our specialist Technical Advisors, we can determine the roughly right dry matter percentage of the current crop and give advice on when the optimum time of harvest will be.
The benefits of this are to greatly improve the quality of maize silage as cutting time is one of the most important factors when it comes to Silage quality. By Cutting at the correct time, larger yield per hectare is also achieved directly, reducing input costs and increasing margins
