Health, Safety & Risk Officer
PURPOSE OF JOB
To implement and maintain the safety, health and risk systems at the mill. To ensure legal and company standard compliance.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Complying with Health, Safety and Risk regulations
- Comply and implement both Corporate and De Heus SA Safety Health and Risk Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Implement Health, Safety and Risk to meet all relevant legal and Company requirements.
- Ensure you are familiarised with the Occupational Health and Safety Act at all times and inform the Branch Management and staff of any changes as and when they occur.
- Ensure to have monthly Health and Safety meetings and keep record of all the meetings conducted.
- Send record/minutes of meetings to National Safety, Health and Risk Coordinator as well as Branch Manager and provide feedback to all parties involved.
- Ensure that all Health, Safety and Risk is communicated to all staff at branch level with regards to their responsibilities and authorities.
- Together with the Branch Management facilitate the process in appointing First Aiders, Fire Fighters and Health and Safety Representatives.
- Implement and coordinate training for Health, Safety and Risk together with HR and Training department at Head Office.
- Ensure that all staff are skilled and trained according to their work instructions relevant to their job as and when they start their employ.
- Ensure at all times the Safety of, Personnel, Products and all work procurements
- Ensuring that the plant is free from mycotoxins and salmonella by performing monthly checks.
- Joined responsibility with the Branch Manager for all contractors entering into the premises and ensuring that they are taken through an Induction.
- Responsible for the Safety induction of new employees before they start with their new job
- Responsible for all injuries on duty and to ensure that employees get the proper medical attention needed.
- Ensure that the correct form of PPE is being used by staff at all times.
Implement and maintain Housekeeping
- Report on housekeeping practices in production area, workshop and outside factory, in line with the company health and safety and environmental guidelines.
- Together with Production and Maintenance identify, implement and monitor the areas of plant utilities, efficiencies, safety and risk, so providing an effective service.
- Performing housekeeping audits and maintaining housekeeping with in the plant
Implement and maintain Quality and Risk
- Ensure that all Quality, Safety, Risk, Environmental, Production and Logistical, systems are maintained.
- Update and maintain the quality data system
Administering of Reports
- Controlling of the observations and NCR reports are done on a weekly basis and where necessary implement corrective and preventative measures.
Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12 Certificate)
- Relevant Health and Safety qualification
- Possession of a valid Code 08/EB drivers license
- 3 Years’ experience in a similar position
- Familiar with feed milling industry regarding quality standards and systems
- Safety, risk and Health knowledge in a Manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word & MS Outlook
