Purpose of Job

To oversee and manage the Laboratory and Quality Assurance process on a daily basis for sites assigned to you. To ensure that all Company requirements on HR, Quality, Safety, Risk, Environment, Administration and Operations are met within the assigned sites Laboratory and Quality Assurance environments 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 

Strategy and Objectives

  • Execute regional Quality Assurance portion of strategy in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager

Leadership and Human Resources

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Leadership and Human Resources Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Continually strive to improve through teamwork with employees all aspects of Quality Assurance activities.
  • Lead the Quality Assurance team towards meeting objectives and targets through regular communication.  Conducts regular performance appraisals with relevant Laboratory staff.
  • Ensure that all Laboratory team members are effectively communicated to with regards to their responsibilities and authorities.
  • Ensure that all Laboratory personnel are skilled and trained according to works instructions relevant to their job functions.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance meetings and ensures that action plans agreed to within team meetings are delivered upon.  
  • Manage Laboratory employee relations climate and ensuring corrective and disciplinary action is taken where required in line with relevant legislation and company policy.
  • Displays and promotes the positive agreed De Heus behaviours while avoiding and deterring the negative agreed De Heus behaviours.
  • Manage Laboratory staff time keeping, leave rosters and attendance in line with Company procedures.
  • Request Recruitment of Laboratory Staff.

Safety Health and Risk

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Safety Health and Risk Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Implement and monitor Quality Assurance occupational safety, health and risk to meet all relevant legal and Company requirements, including relevant documentation. 

Environment and Sustainability

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Environment and Sustainability Procedures and Work Instructions at the Laboratory.
  • Implement and monitor Laboratory environment and sustainability to meet all relevant legal and Company requirements, including relevant documentation.

Quality and Laboratory

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Quality and Laboratory Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Implement and monitor Quality Assurance processes in line with the Company requirements in your assigned regions / sites.
  • Implement and monitor the ISO standards and approach in all areas of Quality Assurance in your assigned regions / sites.
  • Monitors and drives housekeeping in Quality Assurance area.  
  • Investigation and establishment of root cause of Quality Assurance related items on NCR Register.
  • Ensure HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, AFMA and Act 36 Regulatory systems are implemented and maintained at designated sites in South Africa.
  • Conducting internal audits in line with HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, AFMA and Act 36 Regulatory systems at designated sites.
  • Ensure ISO 22000, AFMA, Regulatory and any other third-party audits are conducted at designated sites.
  • Conduct Supplier audits in regions of responsibility.
  • Creating audit reports of internal audits and supplier audits as conducted.
  • Updating work instructions, forms and procedures for designated sites.
  • Maintenance and storage of all QA documents on site and advises HO of any changes to Site documents.
  • Ensure Pro-q and the S drive is kept updated with any document changes.
  • Completion of annual Quality Management review for designated sites.
  • HACCP / Feed Safety Team Leader for designated sites.
  • Verify Daily and monthly reports for designated sites.
  • Updating and submitting all Quality Assurance reporting requirements.
  • Co-ordinating the CAR and NCR process at the designated branches in conjunction with the Plant Manager.
  • Maintaining and reporting on the CAR and NCR log to the QA and Lab Manager
  • Participate and provide support in all Quality Assurance testing which occurs at the designated Branches eg. Homogeneity and Carryover Testing, Phytase recovery testing etc.
  • Co-ordinate and quote external customers for lab analyses and verify with QA Manager before submission to customers.
  • Ensure external customers are invoiced vis the finance department for analyses.
  • Training of QC / Laboratory technicians at sites within your responsibilities.
  • Support laboratory staff at sites within your responsibilities.
  • Fill in for lab staff at posted site as and when required.
  • Ensure all QA and Lab costs are maintained within budgets.
  • Participate in Quality and Formulations meetings.

Finance and Administration

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Finance and Administration Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance Annual Budget
  • Obtain quotes and recommend suppliers for Quality Assurance related expense items
  • Implement and encourage Quality Assurance cost cutting initiatives that do not impact on long term business sustainability. 

Procurement and Inventory

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Procurement and Inventory Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Maintains stock levels of all laboratory consumables and reagents while purchasing these from approved suppliers.

Operations Management

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Operations Management Procedures and Work Instructions.

Marketing and Customer

  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Marketing and Customer Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Investigation and establishment of root cause of Quality Assurance related items on Customer complaint Register.
  • Business Intelligence and Communication
  • Comply to and Implement De Heus South Africa Business Intelligence and Communication Procedures and Work Instructions at Quality Assurance.
  • Ensures adherence to Quality Assurance ERP and DH Application system and data requirements and accurate and on time capture of information.

Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Quality Assurance or related qualification would be preferred – Bsc or Btec Degree with a major in Chem
  • Drivers License
  • No Criminal Record
  • GMRs qualification where required
  • 3 – 5 Years in a Senior QA or Laboratory  role in a manufacturing environment
